Full-Service Interior Design for Primary, Secondary, and Seasonal Homes

A world of your own starts here…

Your home should feel like the life you’ve been imagining…more color, more ease, more personality. More room to enjoy the people, places, and moments that matter most.

We create full-service interiors for clients who know what they want life at home to feel like, but don’t want to manage every decision, detail, and follow-up required to get there.

We also collaborate closely with builders, architects, and trusted trade partners when the project calls for it, keeping the creative vision and practical details moving in the same direction.

Residential Interior Design

Our full-service interior design experience is for homeowners who want a complete, professionally led process from concept to installation.

This is the right fit if you are furnishing, renovating, or reimagining multiple rooms, a whole home, or a property that deserves a stronger point of view.

You get the vision, the plan, the selections, the sourcing, the installation, and the final layer of polish without turning your home into a second job.

This may include:

  • Concept development and creative direction

  • Space planning and furniture layouts

  • Furnishings, lighting, rugs, art, accessories, and styling

  • Finish, fixture, and material selections

  • Custom furniture, upholstery, window treatments, and soft goods

  • Vendor, trade, and procurement coordination

  • Project communication and timeline guidance

  • Installation planning and final styling

The result is a home that feels colorful, personal, deeply livable, and fully considered from room to room.

Seasonal & Second Homes

Vacation time with those you love should feel joyful, charming, and easy to enjoy, but your Gulf Coast or seaside home doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s idea of coastal living.

We design second and seasonal homes for clients who want a place to gather, relax, host, and return to, without managing every detail from near or far.

From furnishings and finishes to installation and final styling, we help create a home that feels ready for real life by the water.

That means thinking through the details that matter most in a coastal environment: salty air, humidity, guests, full houses, long weekends, hosting, and daily comfort.

It’s the difference between a home that feels deeply connected to its location, and one that feels overly themed simply because of its location.

Our seasonal and second home design services are ideal for:

  • Texas Gulf Coast homeowners

  • Galveston, Bolivar Peninsula, and nearby coastal property owners

  • Seasonal residents and second-homeowners

  • Clients furnishing a newly purchased coastal home

  • Kansas City clients continuing a long-standing design relationship, as well as new KC homeowners

  • Homeowners with seasonal homes anywhere in the U.S.

  • Families who want a home that feels polished, comfortable, and personal

Let’s make sure your home away from home feels like a world of its own.

Furnishings & Decor Services

Our furnishings and finishing services bring together furniture, lighting, art, textiles, color, and styling to give your home the personality and polish it’s been missing!

We offer this service independently or alongside a full-service project so we can ensure the final result feels cohesive, intentional, and complete.

We don’t simply fill rooms, but shape the feeling of the home…the final details that make the whole world come together.

The first step for every project.

Every project begins with an initial Discovery Call.

If we’re a good fit for each other, the next step is a Design Consultation, where Helen gets to know your home, your goals, your style, your needs, and what life in the space could become. You’ll walk through what’s working, what’s not, where the home needs more beauty or function, and what kind of support will help bring the project to life.

For some clients, this consultation offers focused direction and expert perspective. For full-service clients, it’s the first step in a larger design relationship and the foundation for the scope, vision, and next steps.

The Design Consultation is not a substitute for a full design plan, drawings, sourcing, or implementation. It’s a strategic starting point.

Still here for Kansas City.

Helen Austen Interior Design is based in Galveston and serves the Texas Gulf Coast (and beyond!), but Helen’s work didn’t begin there.

After years as a trusted design voice on Kansas City television and many projects throughout the area, she continues to serve select Kansas City clients and seasonal-home projects nationwide.

Whether you’re reimagining a Kansas City residence, furnishing a second home, or creating a seasonal retreat somewhere farther afield, the promise stays the same: colorful, polished interiors, a clear full-service process, and a home that feels like a world of your own.

What it feels like to work with us.

You come to us with the life you want your home to support, and we help translate that into rooms with color, confidence, comfort, and point of view.

Maybe you know exactly what you love…and exactly what you don’t want. Maybe you can describe how you want the home to feel, but not how to get there.

That’s where we come in!

With a background in professional organizing and counseling, founder and principal interior designer Helen Austen is especially good at seeing what a home needs to become. She understands how people live, where the plan creates friction, and how to make design decisions that bring more beauty, ease, and imagination into daily life.

Our 15-Step Process

The 15 steps happen behind the scenes, but the experience can be understood in five simple phases.

1.

Discovery & Consultation

We begin with an initial Discovery Call, followed by a paid Design Consultation to understand your home, your goals, your lifestyle, your style preferences, and what the space needs to become.

These are the first steps for every project.

2.

Creative Direction

Once we define the scope, we develop the creative vision for the home.

This may include layouts, furnishings direction, finishes, materials, color, art, lighting, and the overall design story.

3.

Presentation & Approvals

We present the design direction, walk you through the selections, answer questions, and guide the decisions that need to be made before the project moves forward.

4.

Procurement & Coordination

Once the design is approved, we manage the sourcing, ordering, vendor communication, timelines, trade coordination, and the many details required to bring the project into motion.

5.

Installation & Styling

We bring everything together through delivery, placement, installation, styling, and the final details that make the home feel complete, personal, and ready to enjoy.

Ready for a world of your own?

From Galveston and the Texas Gulf Coast to Kansas City and seasonal homes nationwide, we create homes with color, personality, polish, and practical ease.

Get the home, not the homework.
